The parliament exists to give the people the illusion of having power in the lawmaking process. The EU is not a democracy, merely disguised as one. I would love to be proven wrong of course. But unless major change I doubt I am.

I don't want to see the EU collapse or whatever. it has done alot of good too. But the current EU leadership feels like a poor joke.

but EU has higher quality legislation, because it is done by experts.

And EU parliament can amend and change legislation before it is adopted together with Council, which is good.

How nice. Thank goodness it’s not institutionally corrupt with lobbying and revolving doors influencing what goes into that legislation and those “experts” are entirely objective.

experts for example include "Have your say" experts, for example thousands of open source people who created "open source strategy" back in January. As I hear, most of what open source experts asked, that got into the strategy.

and about lobbying, chief lobbyist in EU seems to be Donald Trump. It is highly unfortunate.

Or it just shows that US politics lobbying etc. is so rampant, that it spoils EU afaires as well.

Or it shows EU has way better process. Unique as you say, but better.

Better that so much more decentralized decision making, which is also more complicated to lobby.

@meganL It’s written by the commission. But they’re not the only ones being lobbied and looking forward to their revolving doors. The parliament is too. There’s a reason Google’s offices are across the street from the parliament.

As I recall, the last time there was a proposal to shift power to the Parliament, it was vetoed by the British and French. I hoped that a benefit of Brexit might be that France wouldn't be able to veto a proposed shift by itself with no political support.
