If you’re “politically neutral”, you’re saying fascism isn’t a deal breaker for you.

So that’s a deal breaker for those of us for whom fascism is a deal breaker, @ivpn.

@Reddog See @njalla (I know Peter personally and can vouch for him) and @xeovo (only just heard of them but they publicly stated they’re antifascists and pro-trans rights).

airvpn exists and I am currently waiting for an email to see what their opinion on this is. airvpn.org/aboutus/
In their about page they say they are hacktivists but nothing more that my adhd could keep up with.

Followup on airvpn, got an answer, honestly I respect this more than the super neutral safe answer I got from ivpn:

Hello! Thank you for your inquiry.

The political ideas of AirVPN members are sensitive data protected by privacy laws and can never be disclosed.

The company mission, endorsements and donations can be consulted here:

That’s a bullshit answer right there. No one’s asking for the political affiliations of the people who use their services. We’re asking whether the company is run by fascists or not. Not a hard question to answer if your company isn’t run by fascists.

Aral Balkan reshared this.

@jase@mastodon.art

I asked ivpn about that too, through email, they replies with the following:
Hi,

We don't support any politicians or extremist causes anywhere, in any part of the political or religious spectrum. This includes far-right, fascist or nazi politicians, parties and organisations. This is true on a personal capacity for our leadership as well.

We use our profits responsibly to look for opportunities to improve current and develop new services. We aim to stay neutral in political issues where possible, unless they directly connect to privacy and anti-surveillance.

This means we steer clear of supporting projects, content creators or making any strong statements or plant any flags outside of these topic.

You can review the projects we have supported over the years - right now only BTCPay is active: ivpn.net/en/supported-projects…

Hope this helps.

@raccoon Won't support fascists but decidedly quiet about the left end of the spectrum and what is considered "extremist".

We have provided a lot of nuance and clarification on this. An excerpt from a reddit comment: "worth stating - we don't support any extremist causes on any political or religious spectrum, which of course includes any neo-nazi stuff. we only support anti-surveillance, privacy and self-sovereignty related projects (true for IVPN and for leadership team). we try to stay out of any mud-slinging, make any strong statements or plant any flags outside of these topics, it's not our lane."

I feel like most companies these days are like "I should try and be a decent human being but part of my revenue comes from fascist scums so let's be 'neutral'" and put the infamous "extremists" on the same level (pro tip : one wants people to die, the other wants people to be happy)
