Except for being a political move, to ban an EU politician, isn't this a clear violation of Schengen agreement?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Agreement

And in practical terms without actual borders how do they prevent someone from just driving from France, Netherlands into Germany?

How can they know he is not IN GERMANY as they issued this ban?

What are they going to do, open up a concentration camp for non-genocide supporters.

The maturity of German politicians is of anthropological interest.

I wasn’t thinking about Schengen so much as the EU. Is there some loophole here that makes freedom of movement for EU citizens not apply? Or is Germany just being blatantly illegal here?

I couldn't give a damn about his politics or economic theories, but this must be an unprecedented move for Germany, despite of this huge amount of legislation they have for antisemitism.

Which indicates a very clear EU/NATO position to pursue this #war against #Iran which the entire climate indicates for the past 6 months.

Under the premise that the US/UK/EU is already at war, we should expect further #humanrights deterioration by the capitalist war machine

Henker Deutschland ist zurück. Die Denkenden sind im Exil oder unter sich. Der Staat bekommt Angst wenn wir das sehen und weitet mitunter bestimmt Überwachung aus.

No, Germany is not okay. The public debate about Palestine is firmly in the hand of zionists. Any kind of support of Palestinian people is considered antisemitism. It is insane.

Ban on online participation? What would be the legal basis for that?
in reply to Aral Balkan

what puzzles me slightly is that Varoufakis posts still on Twitter. Hasn't he gotten the news this is a Nazi show now?
in reply to Aral Balkan

Oof. Have you found a “replacement” for DiEM25?

I like Volt’s platform but find their tactics too timid to get behind.

@hans @maxheadroom I’ve basically come to the conclusion that no hierarchical structure, regardless of where it sits on the spectrum is fit for purpose if that purpose is to devolve power and make progress towards a fair, equal, and just society. So I’d look for flat structures that are not trying to replace the current power hierarchy with their own but to dismantle that hierarchy.

This is how the world descends into apocalyptic barbarism from the combined effects of overpopulation and global climate change. The worldwide resurgence of authoritarianism, tribalism, and fascism is not coincidental.

Varoufakis is an attention addicted, trouble making prat. Germany is doing the right thing.

FFS. People on social can be intensely opinionated - I get that - but this coupling of ignorance and strong opinion is something I was hoping we left at Xitter.

Germany is a powder keg. Berlin in particular.
Free speech is being sacrificed with some regularity to retain peace, much to the benefit of the population.

When people bring Zionism into a debate about a fascist regime warring with a guerilla org, they dumb down what could have been a useful discussion.

Ssh, mustn’t upset the plebs, eh? Their little minds couldn’t possibly take being exposed to dangerous ideas like maybe we shouldn’t be complicit in genocide (you know, after that whole Holocaust oopsie). Daddy knows best.

I'm not sure, but doesn't the European Country of Human rights have something to say about this?

@andreasdotorg
Is Varoufakis in generally banned, or just from attending the canceled pro-palestinean congress?

The congress was (as expected) closed by police as it - even though it had been warned not - gave Salman Abu Sitta a platform. He has been banned by courts from any political activity in Germany as he has been inciting / calling for hate crime and violence in the past.

Thus the (quite probably temporary and event-specific) "ban" of Yanis simply was to prevent complicity.

thanks, hon, we're mostly OK 😘 (aside from general fear of far right-wing parties taking over in a few states, that is)

So, to put that article into perspective: Varoufakis is DiEM25's most well-known member, so it's a bit surprising to assume they are impartial reporters here.
I can't find a another source for the claim that Varoufakis was denied entry or similar; in contrast, he's on record (twitter) to claim that German authorities had prohibited him from engaging in politics in …

Disappointed expectations . Bad communication and internal shit mostly top down. ..to prevent #TechSov . Some had independently even a matrix Server Running, quote at the forefront at this time .. but ignored / renegated by cc, vc, abc .. anyway ..

. Anyway , a lot to learn how some or many political Parties and Societies function.
A pity !

I like your term. "Bubbling_up" .. #RectificationOfProgress

It's just revealing the 'democratic' system for what it is: a myth that the ruling elite will merrily override if their interests look like being threatened.

Now, if you'd all like to return to work for the crumbs the elite allow you, whilst they take the cream, that would be just fine, thanks.

in reply to Aral Balkan

yes. They didn't even allow him to talk over the internet. What were they thinking? I wonder.
