That isn't quite true. In the British system it is perfectly possible for a party to get a large proportion of seats in parliament (from which the PM is drawn) with less than a majority of seats. The first past the post constituency system means that there has always been this anomaly. At the moment, the Labour government has 411 seats out of 650 in parliament with only 34% of the popular vote. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_United_Kingdom_general_election
