Dear Fedi friends,

I wonder if I'm being too harsh or if my impression of being misled is accurate?

The CEO of a burgeoning social network - which launched 2 days ago - has said earlier today:

"We are letting in a couple of thousands every day now. But we try to speed things up. We are having almost 100,000 on the waitlist."

How many users do you think they CURRENTLY have based on this statement? Ballpark figure?

(reveal coming soon)

Throughout all of Europe, it wouldn't surprise me if 100,000 approx have signed up on some sort of waitlist, especially if it's just filling out a form and people are curious.

Worldometer suspects there are 743 million people in Europe. I would definitely think 100,000 on a waitlist is doable. But I'm not sure how W-Social has been publicized there.

Went to the Wsocial website to look at this. The example post on the first page is London Mayor Sadiq Khan - who is on full-fat Blue Sky!

my early adopter friends don’t know it, or have a very negative impression. So probably only bots on the waiting list

Are they trying to create a sense of exclusivity with this kind of nonsense?

I'm tempted to say these 1280 are hand-picked.
But then again, there seem already to be a bunch of suspended W early adopters.

On s side note: When I wrote that previous toot, memory struck me. The memory of the early 2000s when we called George W. Bush Dubya. Or Dumbya. And I think that's beautiful.

Answer: at the time of the statement the total number of users was 1005.

Now they're 1227 (2:18pm CET).

That's a good reason to celebrate ! And to spread your research on them even further :))

"Now" being the day they said this, which is today, I would say there is no way of knowing how many users were accepted the first two days. They could have accepted 0 or 3 zillions users yesterday for all we know.

If you replace thousands by hundreds it is closer to the truth.

I was interested at the time to know more about it., but I will never ever give a social network any ID ...

And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one
