🚨 OPT OUT & say NO to #GitHub using your interaction data to train & improve its AI models. 🚨

GitHub is the next company to choose to opt you into having your data used - by default. 🚩

Opt out in Settings --> Copilot --> Features.

Under "Allow GitHub to use my data for AI model training" -β†’ Disabled.

It recently announced that if you do not opt out before April 24th, it will use your interaction data when using Copilot.

Or if you have time to migrate, some alternatives would be GitLab, Codeberg
or if you want to self-host gittea.dev/ is a great option as well.

Are you solely relying on GitHub yourself? Why not on any alternative if you want to promote freedom and independence of Big Tech?
in reply to Tuta

yes codeberg is the way. (Or gitea self hosted if codeberg isn't an option)

Is there any way to disable AI training on the GitHub app?
in reply to Tuta

Just stop using GitHub. If you have to use it, disable Copilot. If you have to turn those settings off it's because you didn't turn Copilot off in the first place (here those were already off by default, since I disabled Copilot).

I went one further: deleted my GitHub account. I was keeping it for visibility, but as I'm no longer a developer,at as well not give them the satisfaction.

Also, just to stick two fingers up, changed all the lines of text and code with the word "slop" just to poison their training data πŸ˜†

I deleted my interactions as far as possible and aftwards my account. Case closed.

Very bold of you to assume they will respect your choise. I am almost sure they will use the data anyway.
