Good morning Fedi friends and happy #DiDay (aka #DigitalIndependenceDay) – an event on the first Sunday of each month that aims to spread awareness about alternatives to #BigTech platforms and educates people on how to make the switch.

Its website for now is in German only, but if you use a browser like @Vivaldi you can easily get each page translated into your language:

What are you planning to do today? I'm going to configure #CryptPad

Thanks for sharing. I think just about every modern browser (including on mobile) can translate pages these days. Though I did try with my limited German knowledge first of all to have a read.

@kbradnam yes yes but I took the opportunity to remind people about #VivaldiBrowser because it has a built in system to block trackers and ads (when you first set it up) and its creators have been very vocal about being anti-AI / never wanting to add any AI features

#NoAI

I have nothing specific planned for today, but I have a list of things I have planned for the next month. I try to do small things every day, and celebrate my DIDay looking back at what I have accomplished 😊

I recently set up a self-hosted Immich instance and will finally complete the switch from Google Photos today

Thank-you for sharing this resource. It has inspired me to return to OsmAnd maps. I used OsmAnd many years ago, but it drained my cellphone battery. I will try it again. :)

I wrote to my bank and asked them to open an account on Mastodon. Worth a try.
