Gemini AI needs to be disabled on Android or it will override your privacy settings and gain full access to your texts, calls, and WhatsApp - even if you’ve turned off Gemini Apps Activity on your phone.
It’s the same for Youtube. You can turn off tracking. But that will also turn of video progress and search history. Even if you pay for Youtube they still track you.
Hmm yes that means Google know who's emails you are receiving, and very likely use the content for whatever they want (make money or train AI) grrrrr 😰😰😰
I know it's a biased post, but browsers and OSes have spell checking so one doesn't need to use Gmail's and I never liked those tabs.
But, since we are talking about this, is it just me or are Gmail spam filters kinda shitty? Lots of valid messages I get are being marked as spam and lots of spam are not being marked as spam.
google does the same on youtube. Because I opted out of history collection, it shows me a blank page saying it can’t do any recommendations when it could at least show videos from my subscribed channels.
I'm getting spell checking with gmail and with "smart features" turned off. The trick is to use IMAP with an email client on your system. Then the spelling checks are done by software you've installed on your computer.
Classic enshitiification and yet another reason to stop using gmail. In my browser I had to go settings (the gear icon), the scroll down under "General" and turn off the setting separately in gmail and workspace.
I have Gemini disabled on my android phone and don't have the app, yet checking my Gmail app settings smart features was on. It must use server side AI then? I've turned it off now but I don't use the Gmail app anyway.
A fundamental weakness of Capitalism is to allow something that starts as a good idea to accumulate, concentrate and grab up too much power and wealth that undermines the entire system. This critique is directed at all mega-corps including Apple who has been hobnobbing with Mr Desructo.
