What a beautiful, majestic building. I can imagine students gathering at the steps, knowing they were in a place of learning. Here is Eleanor McMain as it was years ago (it has been renovated and painted in garish colors, but at least it still exists; New Orleans)

I live in NC. The bones of this places looks beautiful. That photo of the dead-end stairs is eerie. Reminds me of the Winchester house.

@laurenandcats it's a gorgeous building but can't imagine it's going to be standing in five years. It was in rough shape!

Do you ever encounter a human or other large animal while photographing these places?

There is a company in the PNW that buys up these great old properties and turns them into hipster brew-pubs and hotels..

I have no particular interest in the company but I have spent time and money in some of their properties. It is a mostly appealing way to preserve these interesting and historical buildings that would otherwise fall to the wrecking ball and be replaced by the dreck that is (mostly) modern architecture.

I suspect that a lot of conservative states have abandoned schools these days…

Thank you for this art. Even though it breaks my heart.

Capitalism discards everything it can't profit from and we are all poorer for it.
