You did it! 🥳

European Parliament just decided that Chat Control 1.0 must stop.

This means on April 6, 2026, Gmail, LinkedIn, Microsoft and other Big Techs must stop scanning your private messages in the EU. #PrivacyWins 💪

@HowTheyVoteEU it’s good but i don’t know why people that represents my country in 70% has voted to push it. I hate polish goverment
in reply to Tuta

@HowTheyVoteEU
Je remarque : beaucoup d'élus français ont voté pour 🤬
Étonnament, Knafo s'est abstenue.
Glucksmann n'a pas voté 🙄
Morano a voté contre 🤔
in reply to Tuta

@HowTheyVoteEU
I imagine it would be complicated, but it would be really useful to have a list of elected representatives who didn't vote like most of their party.
in reply to Tuta

@HowTheyVoteEU Claire Fita (Occitanie, France) voted for the extension, and she belongs to the "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats". What's the problem? I'll let you find the link between this vote and progressivism, or socialism, or even democracy... I don't think there is one.
in reply to Tuta

@HowTheyVoteEU The numbers here are completely different, can you help me understand this?

i have read up on it, thanks for the clarification! it's still impressive (and kind of funny) that that specific vote came out successful by *1* vote though :blobcatgiggle2:
in reply to Tuta

311 v 228 is the final vote, so not that close fortunately
in reply to Tuta

Good, now let's vote again until the "right" result comes up!
in reply to Tuta

RE: mastodon.social/@Tutanota/1162…

One vote. By ONE FUCKING VOTE.

(Now, I don't know if the vote was a "yes for chat control" and it needed more than a simple majority to pass, or if it was a "no for chat control" and the yes votes just scraped by. Those are very different things. But still.)

do they must stop scanning? or are allowed to stop scanning?
in reply to Tuta

How many weeks/months before this is back on the table I wonder?
in reply to Tuta

Wait what? I didn't think private message scanning was ever approved. I thought it kept being blocked and they kept trying to bring it back.
in reply to Tuta

I'm happy and incredibly disappointed that it hadn't passed by just ONE.

This is frightening that it has so much support.

Thank you to all who protested.

I just hope the decision sticks.

If it had been about Child porn there would have been thousands of arrests not just a very slow trickle of horrific cases that have taken years to even investigate.

Ban the disgusting american social media
and many of the porn trends because that is the real problem.

Forced to look at some. Fuck your step sister, fuck your sister, fuck your mom in all holes very trendy influencing.

This is great! Question, where are you getting the picture from? I'm checking the EU website and the difference seems to be quite bigger that 1 MP (lucky us) europarl.europa.eu/doceo/docum…

in reply to Tuta

why are you showing the amendment vote (which was close, yes) instead of the actual vote to reject extension of voluntary Chat Control (which was anything but close)?

in reply to Tuta

"This means on April 6, 2026, Gmail, LinkedIn, Microsoft and other Big Techs must stop scanning your private messages in the EU."

Guess not. It might still be part of the service agreement. They just do not need to pass any information to EU officials or member states.

in reply to Tuta

Und eben in der Tagesschau: Kinderschutz, Kinderschutz, Kinderschutz 😒 Ich kann es nicht mehr hören!

Just now in the german news: but what about the children? 😒 I cannot stand that narrative!

in reply to Tuta

All those .uckers who voted for it and those who didn't vote at all are the most corrupt .astards!
Keep them in mind in the next elections!
in reply to Tuta

I am sure they will say they won't scan it, but how would we actually enforce it?
in reply to Tuta

"must stop scanning"?
