If you spend $1,000,000,000 a year on the military, you’re going to be using it. The divider in chief and his party of hate and separation want to raise #TheBloatedPentagon budget by 50%. This is insane.
Looking back on that era, one interesting difference is that all the information was simply presented. If something bad happened it was related in full and everyone was along for the ride. Now all corporate space reporting is replete with marketing boosterism and if something goes wrong they cut the feed.
I lived through that era and there was more unity and a shared purpose. Remember, though, that there was a shared enemy, too. The cold war and the real possibility of nuclear war made it a lot easier to be united under those circumstances. Frankly, it's the reason the right wing all over the globe has an other they point to as the threat against which to unite.
if you haven't seen apples 'for all mankind', it's a great historical fiction that considers what would have happened if nixon didn't burn the fleet.
there is also an excellent 1989 documentary of the same name. all the footage was shot by the apollo astronauts and the only voices you hear are those of the astronauts at the time. all set to a brian eno sound track.
It's an odd reality... The only thing keeping reactionary conservatism marginalized in the west was mainstream conservatism agreeing that ruZZia was a greater threat to the world than wokeness.
From that concensus we got the civil rights act, the Apolo program and the Vietnam war here in America. Then ruZZia went and bankrupted its self. But, not before moving as much of it's sovereign wealth as possible into western banking institutions. That festered like an abscess, and now we have the authoritarian tech-sector.
