Compared to other 3D printer laws proposed this year, California’s is the most troubling. It criminalizes open source, reduces consumer choice, and creates a new bureaucratic burden. eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/dang… #opensource #3dprinting #AB2047

you left out the fact it’s unenforceable — plans for 3D printers have been around for 20+ years. Is CA going to police all the parts you can use to make a 3D printer from scratch?

Will the next version outlaw metal-working tools too? Last I heard, those can be used to make even better guns.

California sure is making a lot of stupid moves lately. Gavin is acting like drump and his ilk with moves like this and with the adoption of OS age verification. California used to be more open and FOSS friendly (or faked it well enough to seem welcoming and smart). #RecallGavin #BoycottCalifornia

there aren't that many people pumping out safe working firearms with 3d printers, let alone full auto firearms. We are drowning in professionally manufactured weapons, so it's hard to see this as doing much for public safety.

But it's never actually about safety is it?

Seems a half step from licensing 3D Printer use to kick out amateurs and protect big business from competition.

Or just straight up ban it like Trump and the billionaires are doing to consumer electronics.
