I'm also thinking of a subscription model for MakerTube like Spectra is discussing it. Price increase at Hetzner's is hitting us quite hard (roughly +30%) and I don't know how to cover costs for future storage increase. Sadly I must say that the donation based approach has its limits. A good portion of the costs are covered by early adopters even though we see a constant growth in the user base. Wdyt? #peertube #makertube #finance #donations #hetzner #hosting #costs

If it makes hosting sustainable and if the reasons are explained clearly to existing users, sounds like a good idea.

Based on prior discussions, a storage based subscription plan for MakerTube could look like this:

- free until 2GB
- 10GB 3€/mo
- 100GB 5€/mo
- 250GB 10€/mo
- 500GB 20€/mo
- 1000GB 35€/mo

The plan is to enable it for new users in the near future and move existing users over later this year.

New accounts on MakerTube are now moved over to the subscription model. Please choose a storage plan according to your needs, quota will be applied after successful payment/checkout. Existing users can already move over to the new model by subscribing, otherwise I will move them over later this year. Plans are tightly calculated, please subscribe to a bigger plan if possible.
