email is Tutanota.

Calendar is self-hosted.

Browser is Zen Browser but it is not EU based. Still better than chosing Vivaldi imo. Never tried Mullvad but I guess it's good!

Search engine is @Mojeek ♥️

in reply to Tuta

Are Proton Calendar & Vivaldi EU based? Switzerland and Norway, part of EU? Don't think so.

I'm quite happy with both Vivaldi's browser (nerds, either explain to me what's going on with Mozilla or shush) and Tuta email.

email & calendar : @Tutanota
browser : @librewolf & @floorp
Search : #Zotop (searx) & @Mojeek

qwant, ecosia, vivaldi & proton are to be absolutely avoided

in reply to Tuta

Ecosia is not privacy friendly as far as I'm aware. I don't know anything about Qwant. Sadly, the EU based search engine options are quite sparse.
in reply to Tuta

Vivaldi and Qwant are great. I will give a try to Tuta!
in reply to Tuta

Browser: Floorp (Japan) & Vivaldi
Mail: t-online, self-hosted and will check out Tutanota - never heard of it before.
email-client: Betterbird
Calendar: Paper, on my desk
Search engine: Ecosia
Google drive: installed Libreoffice and I use Obsidian which is better anyway. I just have to move my files.
Cloud... ? has anyone some suggestions for a cloud?

On the subject of browsers: I'm not sure whether it's more important to me that the browser comes from the EU or Europe or whether the browser uses a framework that comes from the US (Vivaldi and Mullvad -> Chromium).

Ditch all big tech and go open source and federated where possible!

Yeah, NO.

Proton is a trumped company, with their CEO loudly celebrating rhe fascist taking power.

Proton is a Trump Ally.

If this were about the environment this would be called greenwashing. In greenwashing they paint carbon fuel as green because they bought some trees.

I don't know what to call this? Betrayal? Nazi washing? A lie?

Makes me COMPLETELY doubt the recommended apps, and Tuta.

Anyone have deeoer, clearer, info on this error?

Thank you. I've been searching for alternatives and, I guess since I'm in the U.S. using Google mostly, I had never heard of these. I'm going to try them out. Thanks again.

I have succeeded in getting Nextcloud up and running. So now I have a replacement for Dropbox, Google suite including, Google Photos and I also use it for my new (not gmail) email. And for the people on my Nextcloud server, the chat/phone/video call software called Nextcloud Talk is really good.

It was not easy, but now it seems to run really well. I made it work in NixOs, and can recommend it. Write if you are interested in the "configuration.nix".

All European here:

Browser - Waterfox (UK)
Search - Mojeek (UK)
Email - Tutanota (Germany)
Calendar - Tutanota (Germany)
Drive - self-hosted

in reply to Tuta

Would not expect any Proton's service appering here 😂 Respect for that Tuta..
in reply to Tuta

You are someone else, it's a good thing we have you. 👍🏻
in reply to Tuta

I use TutaMail for my private mails, ProtonMail for work and Disroot for family; Iceraven, Ironfox and Librewolf browsers; calendar on paper; Disroot's SearX and Swisscows as search
in reply to Tuta

Search: Startpage.com (Netherlands) Translation: DeepL.com (Germany).

Thank you for this overview.

Looking at the comments there seems to be a little misunderstanding about the definition of Europe and the EU. They are 'almost' the same but not 'quite' the same. Choosing a European alternative is good, finding an alternative by an actual EU based company is even better.

not everything "american-built" is bad. it might be worth checking out. what is too old which is european instead. agreed with the picture but only from android. not totally. not defending "american high tech". i don't know where some of you come from. but it's difficult to avoid gmail.

It's not, do give us a try. 😉

I really, *really* wish people would not promote European tools as superior to American tools from a privacy standpoint after the EU tried to ban any encryption they couldn't backdoor under the guise of preventing distribution of CSAM

Are there any plans to introduce a 'Tasks' or 'To Do' function into Tuta Calendar similar to Google Calendar? It's one of my major obstacles for deGoogling.
