how was the community reaction to this, i personally like the idea

@Etch9
Few voters so far, so the results don't reflect a common opinion yet. For now it points to dedicated hosting though.

How does holodiscover update messages as soon as the OP takes actions? It makes me think that keeping a long history will make the service more and more unfeasible to host
in reply to Etch

@Etch9
It simply speaks ActivityPub, so when a Delete or Update activity is received, the service updates or removes what it has in the DB. This changes nothing about privacy, even with millions of messages. The DB handles that load just fine, but you then need a server sized for it. That is the whole point of the poll. A dedicated server, or a time based retention, only to save storage space.

ty for the reply, i just noticed that Holos Discover just followed me, i dont mind this at all, but it made me curious, how does the follow work?

@Etch9
Funny, it just followed you. It grows organically with interactions, a kind of snowball. It works as an opt-out, since the Mastodon index is turned on by default. You can opt out by blocking it, or by asking it to unfollow you.
