@matthieu these two statements seem contradictory.. and who knows where the genAI virus will stop? For now it's "to facilitate review" (what does that even mean? why can't they use humans to "facilitate reviews" instead?), soon they'll be using genAI to write the code, and give it a year or two, the linux code will be unmaintainable and nobody will be able to understand it, plus all the developers will have forgotten how to code, and whatever company they use for their genAI will ask for money or else. If I was Microslop's boss, that would be my plan, and they're just falling head first into it.

Also.. why is Linux supporting such a bad industry with values at the opposite of their own? and what about the environmental cost of genAI?

Anyway.. rant finished. It's just really disappointing. 😣

using tools doesn't mean replacing. And by process I mean going from maintainers to Torvalds, the strength of opensource (as compared to microslop) is that there is collective stake or knowledge.

Loss of competence is absolutely an issue, but it's a minor one, because people there are not "vibe coding", but instead using it while understanding what it does (bisecting, refactors, even a bit of documentation). So I don't see the issue.
