If you’re one of the folks who hasn’t yet subscribed to the idea that FIFA is corrupt and that Gianni Infantino is a fascist boot-licker, this is all the proof you need.

For well over a decade I was a passionate footy fan (until FIFA’s corruption drove me away). And I was even a coach during that time. From my perspective, this was about as clear a red card as you can get. And, yet, it was overturned because a fascist dictator asked it to be.

Well, that and because FIFA wants to draw attention and fill seats. And it’s the second time they’ve done it during this very tournament.

Fuck FIFA. Fuck fascism. Fuck capitalism.

There’s nothing I like about any of this and have been watching the tournament since the start.

It’s all bad.

All of it.

we can’t have anything nice. It sucks to really enjoy something called “the beautiful game,” and then have fascism shit all over it.

Though, if I want to be positive and look for silver lining, there is some. Footy is not environmentally responsible. And it’s weird to love a tournament where countries are pitted against one another when you don’t believe countries should even exist at all.

Still. It makes me sad.

I understand folks grieving about the corruption of “The Beautiful Game.” As others grieved the corruption of amateur sports by the IOC.

But here’s the thing: Football is to FIFA and the leagues as making music is to the music industry. The industry doesn’t own music, just the transformation of music into celebrity and money. But anyone can make music, just as anyone can play football in a park.

Don’t let those bastards make us forget that they don’t own playing a game.
