You can access data from deleted forks, deleted repositories and even private repositories on #GitHub. And it is available forever. This is known by GitHub, and intentionally designed that way.

The “access data from private repositories” part is a bit misleading, because those refs only can occur when switching a repo between public &
private access.

I feel like a lesson for us all is: do not assume that once something is public on the internet, that it can ever really be private again…
