🌌 Astronomers using JWST have discovered an exoplanet that defies every known formation mechanism. PSR J2322-2650b is a Jupiter-mass world orbiting a pulsar — a city-sized dead star — every 7.8 hours at a distance of just 1 million miles. Its atmosphere is pure helium and carbon, with soot clouds and possible diamond rain. The planet is stretched into a lemon shape by extreme gravity. No water, no methane — just molecular carbon (C3 and C2), a composition never seen before. Out of ~6,000 known exoplanets, this is the only gas giant orbiting a pulsar and the only one with this impossible chemistry. science.nasa.gov/missions/webb… #astronomy #exoplanets #JWST
