"I prefer to meet people where they are" says reasonable-sounding white dude holding court at a table in the back of a Nazi Bar.

It's Bluesky. The Nazi Bar is Bluesky.

Guess I'll hang on to my Maston account while I see how this plays out. ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ

I don't regret not joining, even though most friends from twitter went there.

@Andrea
Why be on BlueSky when you can just follow the ' B.S. Bridge ' account and stay comfortably on the #fediverse & still have individual blocks via the B.S. bridge also. This side steps all their tracking B.S. by NOT being on the network anyways โ•ฎ(๏ผพโ–ฝ๏ผพ)โ•ญ

@Andrea

Yep. Useless Consent To Follow B.S. is a Bridge to get around AT๐ŸคBSBridge๐ŸคActivityPub & the lack of interoperability.

At least the consent is both side isms.

I couldn't tell if they were serious or if it was parody (I'm terrible at judging these things), but two people in the Death Guild chat this week seemed pleased to still be on Twitter and they said was so much better now than before!

not great with some of the people funding, true, but Effective Altruism has a solid core IMHO despite character flaws of individual members -- and I know some of the people making Bluesky and they seem well-aligned to me.

I think it's fair to treat it as a soon-to-be-truly-federated network (hopefully) and say: there'll be nazis occasionally, like there are in the Fediverse, and we will push back against them as needed as always.

in reply to In #Flancia we'll meet

@flancian EA people are absolutely kookoopants apocalyptic eugenicists.

You know what another name for "soon-to-be-truly-federated" is? Non-federated.

in reply to jwz

haha fair on both counts in many cases, and I've always liked your compound disses.

I know it's a boring answer but it's literally true: not every effective altruist.

in reply to Atomic Orbitals

@geoglyphentropy I think that when it fails completely it is neither; when it fails partially it is altruism; and when it succeeds it is both :)
in reply to jwz

@geoglyphentropy haha touchรฉ! And I love the dude and his crew of course.

I know what you mean, don't get me wrong. I am myself mildly uncomfortable being the random guy who ends up potentially defending a group which includes some douchebags. But that's what you sign up to do when you defend any diverse group I guess, and I think there's enough "good members" to try to reclaim EA from its worse associates.

TLDR: this is human group, members are spread across many distributions, etc.

in reply to In #Flancia we'll meet

@flancian @geoglyphentropy If you find yourself defending a gorup of eugenicists, because there are very fine people on both sides, it's best to stop digging.
in reply to jwz

@geoglyphentropy fair, I just don't identify with any eugenicists in the group and I'm not aware of e.g. William MacAskill, Toby Ord or Peter Singer doing either; I like them and their friends more than I dislike any bad elements that crept in, is all I'm saying.
in reply to jwz

I almost joined and decided not to .
And I was glad that I didn't.

Is that logo supposed to remind one of goatse or is that just where my permanently destroyed mind goes with every circle held open by two hands?

Donโ€™t think Bannon was a cofounder of Blockchain Capital. Bannon and Pierce were in cahoots years before, until Bannon usurped him.
in reply to jwz

facts are important, whether you like it or not. You donโ€™t fight lies with more lies
in reply to Dylan

@galoisghost Once again, nobody claimed Bannon was a founder of Blockchain Capital. Your reading comprehension problems are a you problem not a me problem.
in reply to jwz

A Steve Bannon pal called Brock... I know enough.
