We’ve been busy building and releasing but it’s high time to share some major news: @sovtechfund is investing nearly €500K into #chatmail

This 18-month commitment supports chatmail maintainers keeping the core infrastructure secure and evolving, on top of which several apps are built (but not STF funded):

#DeltaChat
@arcanechat
@deltatouch
Parla on Gnome

A huge thank you to the Sovereign Tech Fund for investing in open, secure and decentralized communication!

congratulation !!

hope it help to speed up your work into reaching parity on some feature (with other), and finish what you planned (in beta (call for instance).

thanks for your work.

@hidikem @pancake we edited the post to be clearer about the fact that neither Delta Chat nor the other chatmail clients are receiving funding. The chatmail infrastructure consists of "relay" setup templates and the "core chatmail library" that is used by all clients. More here chatmail.at

holy cow that’s a lot of funding. Keep up the great work!
in reply to Delta Chat

just to clarify, i did not received a cent to make Parla. I wished delta didnt mentioned several topics with mentions in the same post to avoid confussions and tons of mentions :D
in reply to pancake

@pancake sorry. we edited the original post, reads clearer? Otherwise drop a DM but please keep in mind we have a 500 char limit and dopn't want to rewrite the whole post :)
in reply to Delta Chat

reads better yeah :) its better to use separate posts for separate topics. I missed the times when 140 char limit was the thing :D
in reply to pancake

@pancake why is it a separated topic???? it is clearly saying that the chatmail core is being founded and that core is being used by you in Parla, so in a way, yes, ArcaneChat and your client are being paid/supported by STF, you didn't have to write the whole core/business logic and could focus on making some UI, but the core is part of your app and it is being improved thanks to the mentioned founding, so I don't see what is the different topic here 🤔
in reply to ArcaneChat

@arcanechat i am doing Parla for fun in my spare time, not because any monetary interest or request from any funding and I am not part of the deltachat or chatmail devteam. I just tried to clarify the confussion as some people thought that was not the case.

But yeah i use jsonrpc and chatmail servers, but i think it’s misleading to mix both topics in the same post for the stated reasons. Nevertheless I’m happy to see interest in making chatmail better and supporting it in any way, even economically.

@pancake in my opinion there is no mix of topic, it is fair that you want things clearer and I think that is the case already in the post since it says ArcaneChat et al. are not funded by that money

but it is fair to mention the software that gets powered by that chatmail core because otherwise seeing as a separated thing people might think "ok who cares?" without realizing it is a fundamental part of several other projects that completely depend on it, so supporting it has way higher impact

@arcanechat @pancake it's fine to call us out on the mixing of concerns. It was actually meant to direct some attention to other projects and not just put us in the center, but it also was confusing the message a bit, hopefully now sufficiently clarified. Let's maybe not discuss this here further if you can agree -- we can always open a chat group ;)
in reply to Delta Chat

@arcanechat 🤝 thanks for the visibility :) and sorry for the noise, that was totally not the topic we should be discussing. I’m so happy to see more support for the chatmail infrastructure 💪
in reply to Delta Chat

sounds great but I genuinely ask myself what you'll do with that money 🤔 isn't the chatmail server impl already complete?
in reply to Lutin Discret

chatmail relays, and the associated email infrastructure, are evolving quite a lot but we don't post much about it here. #chatmail infrastructure also is the *core Rust library* which is used by all the clients, so it's not just the "server" side. See also chatmail.at
