The tale of "convenience" is a bit of a trick. A lot of corporate provided services maybe were somewhat convenient a decade ago, but they are now increasingly authoritarian, and people tend to ignore how much time they steal.

Total number of hours spent solving captchas or consent screens with #deltachat #chatmail and #webxdc apps: 0 (zero). Nada. Zilch.

Add to that the incomprehensible captchas. There are some websites I've just given up on.

I discovered the other day that it is no longer possible to buy and sell used stuff on a swedish online version of ebay without a smartphone. Bye, bye, swedish online market place!

and they will soon require an "official" phone by google or apple, so they can spy on you even on desktop

Also there are non-abusive self hosing solutions to stop fake sign-ups.

Once someone has an account they should never see a recaptcha

They are evil!
