The Biddy is a folk tradition associated particularly with Mid-Kerry and linked to Brigid’s Day and Imbolc, where groups wear ornate, handmade straw headpieces and travel around houses and pubs playing music while carrying a Brídeóg (a model Brigid in child form) to ward off evil and bring good luck to people and animals.

I believe many of these have Celtic pagan origins - this one is associated with a spirit of wells and springs. A common theme of mummers seems to be creeping from house to house with some object and playing music and drinking.
