On 13 June, the Justice and Home Affairs Council, composed of EU Member States’ ministers of the Interior, will discuss the recommendations of the High-Level Group (HLG) on Access to Data for Effective Law Enforcement (“Going Dark”).European Digital Rights (EDRi)
If confirmed, Brunner would lead DG HOME, the Commission unit that'll propose laws on data retention, encryption & other surveillance issues.
In short, the topics most relevant to EDRi's mission to stop discriminatory & arbitrary #StateSurveillance will fall to him!
As Commissioner, he would have the opportunity to ensure that #AIAct implementation follows international human rights standards for people at EU borders, and to protect encryption from chat control or the #GoingDark group.
