twas born in El Barrio but grew up in #PuertoRico (Mayagüez represent) and only came back to USA to finish college & go to graduate school. so i didn't grow up speaking “el difícil” as we call la lengua de Chaquespir, nor immersed in USA or gringo cultures.

this #Muppets GIF ―with Big Bird from Sesame Street and R2D2 from Star Wars―, encapsulates half of the Americana i heavily consumed in my youth. the other half was dominated by Soul Train and our local college rock radio station.
