Good morning, Professor Brown — I’ve recently begun delving into your work on restorative democracy and will continue exploring further now that my interest is piqued. It resonates at multiple levels with much of my thinking over the past decade or so. For example, my lack of faith in using historic political economy models to inform our thinking on solutions to present problems. By way of introduction: I’m a practitioner, not an academic. I’m a small town attorney who had aspirations to practice environmental law. In pursuit of that goal I picked up certificates in environmental, natural resource, and water law. I also concurrently took an M.S. in bioregional planning and community design. But, life is what happens while we’re busy making plans and I fell in love with a U.S. Forest Service scientist and had a son. They are the center of my world — for which I’m grateful — because I believe I’ve found my place in the world.
