THIS!
“Remember, fossil fuels are *fuels*, while renewables are *infrastructure*.”

Wonderful turns of phrase by @pluralistic - I'm going to have to read Solnit's book, Truth, Consequences, Climate, and Demand Destruction.
"This is the defective reasoning that caused Comrade Trump to hormuz the world into the full Gretacene."
"That's Comrade Trump's three-part mobilization: human rights, finance, and national security, all insisting that the enemy gets a vote, and voting unanimously for a post-American world."
I hope somebody's keeping an eye out for the enshittification potentials in renewables, so that we can head those off when the Predator Class starts trying to enclose those commons. (I think I've seen some reports of those kinds of things already being tried, though not yet at national scale.)
Relatedly, I'm looking forward to the day when solar becomes bicycle-level back-yard tech that's essentially impossible to enclose.
It's time to make war profiteers pay, and fund the switch to #renewables

Make war profiteers pay: tax fossil fuel profits - Greenpeace International
Stop fossil fuel giants profiting from war and pollution. Conflict drives up bills while Big Oil makes billions. Sign now to tax profits and fund disaster relief and energy independence.Greenpeace International
Dear #Fediverse
I've been considering writing a post about these very topics, but
@pluralistic explains the future of #fossilfuels and #renewables far better than I ever could.
Welcome to the #Gretacene
In Germany, where people regularly complain about high electricity prices, experts are now panicking about *negative* electricity prices today because of a glut of solar and low demand due to the public holiday.
This shows two things:
1) Germany needs to ramp up flexible use and storage.
2) People in Germany tend to complain about everything rather than talk up the opportunities.
I was asleep at the switch when this came out a few days ago. It is *very* worth reading what @pluralistic has to say. What Trump is doing is horrendous but some things might *inadvertently* change in a positive way - more quickly - because he's doing them.

"Greens who were long dismissed as “idealistic” and “unrealistic” now look like hard-headed pragmatists and true patriots. They are years ahead of their rivals in demanding a transition that makes sense on every level: environmental, economic and political"

The US attack on Iran has made the need for renewable energy inarguable, says Guardian columnist George MonbiotGeorge Monbiot (The Guardian)

“China already has the factory capacity to more than double 2025 sales of solar, batteries and EVs. What was once seen as “overcapacity” is now just capacity.”

Carbon Brief have an excellent Q&A on the new “Land Use Framework” and what it means for food, nature and climate. One key takeaway is that renewable energy space for solar and wind will still take up less space than golf courses by 2050 at just 1%.
This graphic showing the current land use proportions is illuminating. The amount of land used for growing animal feed, in addition to the grazing area is huge! #ClimateChange #CleanEnergy #Renewables #Vegan #Vegetarian
