Good morning Fedi friends!
I started the week in the best possible way: lunch with two @yunohost team members. I was trying hard not to fangirl too much 🤗
I thanked them profusely for their incredible work, empowering us all with the tools to self-host. It's thanks to #YunoHost that I have my own #Pixelfed, #GoToSocial and #Friendica accounts. I hope I'll be able to give back one day.
What else? This week I'll publish part 1 of a mini-series about #PeerTube.

This is a very short post to tell you that we have finally updated our Discourse forum to the latest. For the past year (or more) the Yunohost package for Discourse (what we use) was quite broken and we ended up having an entire separate server just or the forum since we could not update the server itself because of it. Therefore we had an old forum on an old server.
Now we managed to do some gymnastics and move it to our main server and update it. Finally! From now on I hope there will be no more such issues.
I was willing to even give up on all of our forum posts, accounts and comments just to be able to update it and not pay for a separate server for it.
But now all is good. All is fixed apparently.
Many thanks to the folks from Yunohost for the work that they do! And to those who made the Discourse software!

Feb 22nd: after many attempts and 3 wipes of my Ubuntu VPS (following botched installations) I finally managed to install #Ghost 🥳 aseachange.com/@elena/statuses…
I think I can sit back and relax now for the rest of the weekend. LEGOs here I come
This is definitely worth reading! If you can do it, think how great it would be to own your own social media account and software. You can for about $6/month. Nobody can kick you off. Nobody can shut down the service you're using. If you like independence and control, you should read this.

For pure microblogging - without too many bells and whistles - I really enjoy my self-hosted #GoToSocial account: @elena
In the past I would be immediately turned off by the concept of "self-hosting" (too complicated, how do I do that?) but #YunoHost makes it a breeze. I'm spending 5 Euros a month on a virtual private server for it. Planning to write about it this week for my blog 🤗

Today marks the 2-month anniversary of my #selfhosting journey: on Dec 17 I signed up for a VPS and installed #YunoHost mastodon.social/@_elena/113667…
I have never felt more empowered, tech-wise, than in the past two months. I set up my own #GoToSocial, #Pixelfed and #Friendica instances. Seeing the label "admin" next to my name always makes me smile.
Today I will sign up for a 2nd VPS (that runs on Ubuntu) and manually install #Ghost. Wish me luck!

ha ha, I've gone through the same journey as well:) I shout it from the rooftops every chance I get.
#Yunohost is a gift to the world, it's so empowering to be able to host your own services!
This has become a #YunoHost unofficial fan account. Look at all the apps they empower me to self-host!
For the record, I installed YunoHost on my VPS on December 17th, so it’s been less than 2 months. And I’ve already run (and survived) app updates.
Next week I get to meet the team in Paris - thrilled at the opportunity to thank them IRL 🤗
