That's a very interesting interpretation. I realize now that I left off an #earthquake hashtag that might have provided some clarification. The eastern coast of the US experienced a minor earthquake yesterday, so I was imagining that it was caused by an awakening giant or something. I think your interpretation is more interesting though.

If you felt the NJ #earthquake fill out this form for SCIENCE! https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/tellus

I always did it in California, but I didn't feel this one (we're way too far away, I guess) so I don't get to :(

The type of #earthquake that hit New Jersey is actually pretty common – but the danger comes from the fact that building standards to prevent quake damage in the Northeast are a lot less strict than in places like California

If you are in the Northeast US, you can do your part for citizen science and fill out the USGS "how it felt" survey to map the earthquake intensity: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/tellus

#Earthquake shakes U.S. East Coast
The U.S. Geological Survey initially measured the earthquake at a 4.8 magnitude.

Yes, that was a sizeable #earthquake in the #NJ / #NYC area.

A 4.8 located near Lebanon, #NewJersey:

(My extensive West Coast experience tells me that with one that large, you'll probably have some smaller-but-noticeable aftershocks as well. However, I'm very much not a geoscientist, so I'd defer to their actual knowledge.)

A giant "wind damping ball" in Taipei's biggest skyscraper, helped protect the building from this week's earthquake.

The massive ball is suspended from cables, with hydraulics around the base to soften the swaying.
