I always did it in California, but I didn't feel this one (we're way too far away, I guess) so I don't get to :(

(My extensive West Coast experience tells me that with one that large, you'll probably have some smaller-but-noticeable aftershocks as well. However, I'm very much not a geoscientist, so I'd defer to their actual knowledge.)

A giant "wind damping ball" in Taipei's biggest skyscraper, helped protect the building from this week's earthquake.

The massive ball is suspended from cables, with hydraulics around the base to soften the swaying.
