The food insecurity rate is currently at 13.5%, the highest in 9 years.

The food insecurity rate had declined in 2021 when the government ramped up safety net spending to cushion economic blows from the pandemic. But now more than 1 in 8 Americans couldn’t get enough food for themselves or their families at least some of the time.
