unfortunately, I feel the reality is that we can't stop anyone from creating their own instances and doing what they want. That is both the upside and downside of Fedi. It's the trade off of having an open platform.

Also, blocks are literally the only way thats built into the core of the protocol, to curate what you see and who you interact with, both on an instance level AND a user level. That's just how "bans" work across instances and not something I can foresee changing. And we definitely won't change the people who just want to be TERF/bigots/Nazis/pedos/etc. Therefore, we block.
