I see Mark Cuban is looking for proposals to create a more free version of #tiktok. It seems like #loops is already poised to do something like this. It would be really cool to have that kind of financial and social backing of a #fediverse project.

#Pixelfed is getting talked about on TikTok as an alternative to #Instagram.
Almost every video about it has people in the comments saying "Why do I have to pick a server? What does that mean?"
Either people are just dumb beyond help, or we need to do better at onboarding people to the #fediverse.

Don’t forget, a good transition is a soft transition. Habits needs to be planted, and then grow. Here, no company wants you to develop addiction and click on ads, so there is a discovery time you may want to take to build your Fediverse network! Enjoy this time!

Im Ideal des Fediverse besitzt jeder Haushalt einen kleinen privaten Server, auf dem jedes Familienmitglied seinen eigenen Account einrichten kann. Nun leben wir nicht in einem Ideal, sondern in der Realität.
Nicht jeder ist in der Lage oder willens, einen eigenen Server einzurichten und abzusichern.
Aber es gibt eine Lösung. Ein Managed Service, der euch für wenig Geld den Service eurer Wahl zur Verfügung stellt. Ihr müsst euch nur anmelden und den Instanz-Betrieb sicherstellen.
Das ist echte Föderation im Fediverse.
Bei all den Scheindebatten um Bürgergeld und Migration verliert die Politik die relevanten Themen aus den Augen. Es kann nicht sein, dass Konzerne unter Kontrolle weniger Männer mächtiger sind als demokratisch gewählte Regierungen. Nachdem die "Tech-Oligarchen" diese Woche bereits reihenweise dem zukünftigen US-Präsidenten huldigen und in vorauseilendem Gehorsam Falschmeldungen und Hetze als #Meinungsfreiheit deklarieren, darf die #EU auf keinen Fall kapitulieren (tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/verbr…)
Wir brauchen:
- Eine starke EU
- Ein schlagfähiges #Kartellrecht
- #Netzneutralität
- Eine bunte und freie Presselandschaft
- Dezentrale Plattformen wie das #Fediverse
- #OpenSource Software und Lösungen
- Eine starke #Zivilgesellschaft, die Hass und Falschmeldungen entschieden entgegentritt

Also ich bin Neuhier mit dem Account @Sascha 😎 🏴 ⁂ (Fediverse). Vorher war ich @Sascha 😎 🏴 ⁂ (Fediverse). Ich habe mich nach einigen Hin- und Her und nachdem ich einiges an Erfahrungen gesammelt habe entscheiden auf eine eigene Instanz zu ziehen.
Klar habe ich nun erst mal sowohl was die Administration, die Moderation als auch die Accounteinstellungen betrifft einiges zu tun. Aber das wird schon 😀

Hallo zusammen,
hat hier jemand Erfahrung mit dem Hosting Service von #Fediverse Instanzen bei #Weingaertner-IT? Da meine Chefinnen einen #MetaExit machen möchten (also unsere Facebook und Instagram Seiten löschen) soll ich mir jetzt mal eine Alternative überlegen. Ich betreibe zwar schon seit langer Zeit eine eigene Friendica Instanz, habe aber keine Lust das auch für die Firma zu machen, deshalb finde ich das Weingaertner Angebot recht interessant.
Ein ausgefülltes Profil wird ebenfalls gerne gesehen. Wenn ihr mit Mastodon oder unzufrieden seid, schaut euch nach einem anderen Zugang zum Fediverse um: Es gibt so viele Projekte die alle etwas unterschiedlich sind.

The way Fediverse is, makes it very easy to stalk and harass people.
I've only had it happen once or twice, but it's still unsettling to see people I've blocked LONG ago, show up again just cause they made another account on another instance...😒

'Meta appeared to be blocking links to Pixelfed, a decentralized photo-sharing platform, on Facebook, according to both users on Bluesky and 404 Media. A small group of posts that linked to "pixelfed.social" was deleted, with Facebook's "Community Standards on spam" used as a justification.
When asked to comment, a Meta spokesperson said removing the posts was a mistake and that they'd be reinstated.'
Then just decide for a well-known #Fediverse instance, that already operates for years...
The #fediverse has a problem, and I’m going to be very unhelpful in not having an idea how to fix it.
Once an instance gets popular, it’s processing, storage and traffic costs get prohibitive for the people running it.
I regularly see reports of #mastodon instances shutting down because the admins can no longer afford the hosting costs. This will only be worse when #pixelfed and #loops spin up.
Why AT Protocol and not #ActivityPub? I find it strange the #Fediverse isn't mentioned at all

I'm lucky to already have a pixelfed.social account. Still, in order not to add to @dansup's server load, I am taking the plunge:
this morning I'll try to set up my own #Pixelfed instance, thanks to the magic of #YunoHost (Pixelfed is in their list of apps).

Looking for a new server. Any recommendations?
There are a few reasons for the transition, one of them being that graphics.social is federated with Threads.net. I have the domain blocked for the time being, but I feel like one last move to a community that aligns more with my values is the right choice.
