Stop legitimising Mozilla.

They’re sucking all the oxygen out of the room.

“We’re just another Silicon Valley tech company.” – their then head of public policy to me

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” – Maya Angelou

(Or in this case the second, third, fourth… what are we on? I’ve lost count.)

I guess, everyone now is aware that Mozilla is not what it used to be, but Firefox is still the best alternative to everything else. Yes, there are some niche alternatives and forks, but if you want a secure browser that works, your options are pretty limited. Saying this makes me sad.

@tymwol Ungoogled-chromium exists, which is Chromium without telemetry. Like, actually no telemetry at all. No unsolicited requests are being made.

yes *but* chromium is still owned and controlled by Google. And can die overnight if Alphabet turns off the tap.

Firefox is really bad and misdirected, but it's still our last resort.
And to answer to @aral it's A bit like here in France, we have a very bad and misconducted political party on the left, but it's unfortunately the only one to exist politically against the capitalist right.
What we need in both case is more grassroot pressure to force them to do better.

@matiu_bidule @Arina @tymwol You’re not going to force a half-billion dollar corporation that only cares about its bottom line to do better. You might help them improve their messaging, though.

I admit I don't understand the logic of Mozilla, which is already dying and continues to shit on the heads of its remaining users.
But I don't think we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Only technical emancipation from megacorporations and GAFAM will save us. And Mozilla *should* be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.
