Cory Doctorow @pluralistic putting into words maybe one of the fears I have for #RStats folk - they'll get locked in.

Easy to get in. But can you get out again. For me it's not really anything #Bluesky itself is/isn't doing...but what's gone before. People have poured their time and content for free into other platforms then been stung by policy/service changes. 1/2

A lot of this just isn’t true.

Bluesky has no lock-in. People are running their own data hosts right now. It’s actually very easy to leave Bluesky’s infrastructure because, unlike Mastodon, you actually own all of your posts and can take them with you. Tons of people already have. This post gets most things about Bluesky wrong.

@MikeBeas you have foundationally mistaken the point of this, which is not taking your pus with you but rather maintaining contact with your audience. All of my posts have permalinks on the server I control. The reason I continue to use services that I don't like anymore is because that's where my readers are.
