🇫🇷🚨 FRANCE BANS SOCIAL MEDIA FOR U15s → EVERYONE TO VERIFY THEIR AGE.

“For four months, all of us in France will have to prove our age,” said digital minister, Anne Le Hénanff 😡

If you're in France → you'll need to user your ID card, France Connect, or facial recognition (selfie) to log in.

🚩 What’s sold as “online safety” means #surveillance via IDs checks or face scans. 🚩

We must fight against age verification - or the free web dies!

Mending ga nyosmed sama sekali ketimbang setor identitas dan kehilangan anonimitas

Old people telling young people how to use the web...

and that's the tip of the iceberg. They just voted a law that reintroduces toxic pesticides despite 2 milion-signature, doctors, scientists and associations sayingthey are toxic for health and environment. Macron is probably the worst president in French history. He doesn't give a shit about democracy. His government is not even legitimate. The right and far roght votes this kind of shit

when i hosted a mastodon instance, would i have to ban french IPs?
in reply to Tuta

it makes me wonder what exactly counts as social media. Because technically it could be email.
in reply to Tuta

We need politecookies, not mandatory face scans.
in reply to Tuta

No, only new accounts, and verification tools will be developed (like with the French post office):

perhaps I need to better engineer my tinfoil hats, but this being announced on the heels of the U.S.’s “far-left terrorism” event, feels oddly suspicious.

Oh wait, they say it’s the protect the children. Everything must be fine then.

@quixoticgeek Huh - I wonder what this means for my self-hosted Mastodon instance…

I also wonder what happens when a <15 person fires up their own personal instance?

"There you go."

I'm actually ok with Social media dying out for the most part...

I know, ironic to post that on social media... but in the end, it does more harm than good these days.

That stinks. I know it won't always be possible in every scenario, but the one time I decided to submit to an age verification check, I used selfies of somebody I found online and a fake name. #AITA?
#AITA

The most effective way to counter this is to show no support to anyone who approves of such measures. I mean politicians here. Just don't vote for them and convince others not to vote either. No respect, no support. Let them fail completely.

If I lived in France, this would be enough reason to dump all social media.

Start a blog.
