Day 6

Mark Brandis: Raumsonde Epsilon

My first deep dive into Science Fiction.

This is the first of a series of more than 30 novels aimed at a youthful audience, which were hugely popular in Germany during the 70s and 80s.

Today I pick “The golden apples of the sun” by Rad Bradbury.
in reply to Mina

It was my first #SciFi book! After that, I couldn’t stop reading everything that came to my hands about that. From Bradbury to Asimov, or even Huxley, and of course lots of other authors that I cannot remember anymore.
This type of literature in addition to popular books directly or indirectly related to science made possible that I could finally become a scientist.

@javiquinte

Actually, I think, at least in my fields, Maths and CS, there is hardly anybody, who's not into SciFi.

And for many (for me, too), SF played a part in awakening the curiosity about the world and what it could be.

@javiquinte
This.

Not really into math, but scifi stories taught me more about ethics than the bible, ngl.

@ClipHead @javiquinte
I goofed up and posted this yesterday with only the hashtag #BooksThatInfluencedYou without tagging the crew.

I saw you mention science fiction and the bible so want to make sure y'all see the book I posted on Sunday by Isaac Asimov, History of the Bible.

@ClipHead Definitely! And the most famous example of this are the three laws of robotics in Asimov’s books. 🤖
in reply to Javier Q

#Asimov #LawsOfRpbotics

Actually, there are already #FiveLawsOfRobotics. The #ZerothLaw was the 4th one and then there's the 5th by #Kesarovski:

Some time ago, I suggested the need for a 6th one:

However, I see no evidence that even Western #AI companies would be implementing any of them...🤷‍♂️🤦🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

The nice thing about Asimov's laws is that, they teach people that ethics is a minefield.

His laws of robotics sound so sensible that they appear to be a reasonable foundation of how to deal with the moral problems arising from artificial intelligence.

The spectacular failures of such a simple approach are, what make his stories great.

#PerryRhodan TV/Film

(1/3)

Apart from some laudable #FanFiction movies, nothing eas ever done professionally. It is sort of a Lord-Of-The-Rings syndrome--before someone finally filmed the 1st book.

However now, with virtually all issues having been published as e-books and with over 5,200 covers and hundreds of professional technical drawings...

#PerryRhodan TV/Film

...(#Risszeichnung|en) being available, I think PERRY RHODAN would be the ideal subject for the first series to be realized by #AI, at least in part.

Having an online international focus group of #SciFi aficionados chose b/w different realization options (which I have seen for cars) could make sure the production...

Correct
If you read quickly, min. 90 min. for each--without the huge number of paperbacks.
And then, you wouldn't have read any of the (later on cancelled) major spin-off series, #Atlan, the immortal who's lived much more than 10,000 years...

That's about what you'd need to read the now more than 3,200 printed ones. 5,200 appeared as e-books
