In doing so, Trump – albeit through unconventional means – follows in the footsteps of a long tradition of neoliberal redistribution policies dating back to Ronald Reagan. Wealth continues to be funneled upward – faster and more relentlessly than ever before.
Yet even the most zealous supporters of the MAGA movement will, sooner or later, come to realize that their quality of life is deteriorating under Trump’s policies – in stark contrast to life under Democratic administrations. This is precisely why the forced alignment of institutions is advancing rapidly on all fronts. To carry out a political agenda so blatantly opposed to the interests of the population, Trump must assert control over all four powers: the executive, the legislative, the judiciary – and crucially, the media.
