#Canada just made it *easier* for some folks to become citizens. If you have a grandparent or parent who was born in Canada or a naturalized citizen of Canada you probably qualify. The application process is pretty simple and only costs $75. I've done it! #ElbowsUp π¨π¦ π π canada.ca/en/immigration-refugβ¦

You are probably* a Canadian citizen, provided there is a direct line of descent that you can document back to an ancestor who was born or naturalized in what is now Canada. You would need only to apply for your certificate of citizenship.
* exceptions include situations where the parents of an infant born in Canada were in diplomatic or military service of another country, and where one of the ancestors in the line was adopted (as senators have raised concerns about continuing inequity in citizenship for adopted persons born outside Canada).
There is NO generation limit at this point for anyone who was born before December 15, 2025.

Going forward, under the new amendments to the Citizenship Act that came into force, the parents of children born after December 15, 2025 will need to meet a 1095 day presence requirement to pass down citizenship by descent.

Quebec did not have civil registration of births until the late twentieth century. If you can obtain baptismal records, and marriage records for where there are changes of womenβs name in marriage, you should be fine.
