"Nationalism, for Orwell, is the "habit of identifying oneself with a single nation or other unit, placing it beyond good and evil and recognizing no other duty that that of advancing its interests." He distinguishes nationalism in this sense from patriotism. Patriotism involves devotion to a place and way of life, but in Orwell's view it lacks the "wish to force others to adopt this."

This is the third time in six months that Benjamin Netanyahu has flown through Canadian airspace.
Contrary to the GAC spokesperson’s claim, he does not have the freedom to make that decision. Foreign leaders are required to seek permission before doing so.
Netanyahu is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. As a member of the ICC, Canada has a duty to arrest him if he enters the country.
Has the government been knowingly shirking its responsibility and allowing a wanted war criminal to fly through our airspace? If he is flying through without permission, why not say so?
Allowing this to pass without consequence sets a dangerous precedent. Canadians deserve a clear answer.

Hi, who do I call to clean up the air? It's unsafe to be in for extended periods of time.
Oh, we can't? Anyone know if anyone's putting together some kind of class action lawsuit to hold the governments of Canada, BC, the U.S. and oil companies responsible? Would a $500 trillion suit be enough?

All four countries are better off economically in a major way and don’t have to do bad things such as sell #oil or force their population to procreate and consume more!
The #climate affected get a chance to not just survive but thrive!

#Canada, #Russia, #Norway, and #China have a bit of a problem. But there is a potential solution, too!
Canada, Russia, and Norway depend a LOT on exporting #oil
China #exports a lot of everything, especially, #solar #batteries #EV
Chinese #population is shrinking and they seem to be frugal folks - which means domestic part of the #economy is going nowhere including #construction

The #Trump admin also pushed #Canada & #Mexico to adopt a prohibition on imports made by forced labor as part of prior #trade negotiations, & 10 other countries have committed to bans as part of trade deals negotiated over the past year, a senior admin official said.
But critics say the #US, too, has shortfalls on its labor protections. And some say that the admin has seized on forced labor as merely the most convenient way to reimpose #tariffs struck down by #SCOTUS [ya think?].
#Canada, which will be subject to a 10% tariff under the arrangement, already prohibits importing forced labor goods. The #EU, also at 10%, has a ban that is scheduled to take effect in December 2027. But #Trump officials say that the governments have not effectively enforced those laws [like they actually care].
“Charlie Angus writes:
…during a phone call in early 2025 with PM Trudeau, #Trump threatened to rip up the 1908 Boundary Convention, which officially defined the border division between the USA and #Canada.
Trump was openly bragging about moving the border 50 kms further north.
His message was blunt:
“I tear that up, and your whole country unravels.”
Technically, Canada could rely on previous border commissions from 1818 & 1846 to claim the right to hold the line.. “

Trump's Threat to Canada is Deadly Serious
A new report in the Daily Beast reveals just how far the White House is willing to go to upend international law and to attack allies.Charlie Angus / The Resistance
I decided not to report this yesterday (Sunday) because it seemed like an empty threat.
#Trump was hosting #Carney for the World Cup final when he went on one of his forest fire tirades.
Trump told reporters that he spoke to Carney about the need to stop #wildfires in #Canada. He said that they should “pay us some damages or something, or we should do some tariffs.”
Ludicrous right?
Except now…
'Just stop burning fossil fuels.' Scientists stress that our smoky skies have only one true fix.
The sad truth about the Canadian wildfires (gift link):
theatlantic.com/science/2026/0…
When the boreal forests of Canada catch on fire, no one can do anything about it in many cases.
Many people simply don’t grasp the sheer magnitude of the boreal forest or what it would take to manage fires across its enormous area, Jed Kaplan, a professor in the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment at the University of Calgary, told me: “You can’t control these fires. You cannot put personnel, fire engines, over an area that is the size of the entire American South, or something like that. It’s just way too big of an area.”
And so the fires spread, pouring out smoke that washes over the residents of faraway cities.

Once a wildfire starts, it can spread to an area too massive to control.Joshua Partlow (The Atlantic)
I mean seriously.
This from a guy who rolled back #environmental #regulations, claims #ClimateChange is a hoax, actually spent #TaxpayersMoney to NOT build green #energy solutions, &—oh yeah—says we just need to “rake the leaves” off forest floors to avoid #wildfires -- BUT gutted the freaking EPA, NPS & anyone who might be slightly capable of detecting/preventing fires.
Moron.
#Trump says he’s holding #Canada responsible for #wildfire #smoke, threatens #tariffs.
“ US Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) has introduced a bill to revoke visas from Canadian officials + that #Canada’s ambassador is a “persona non grata” until the #wildfire smoke is gone.
“We will not tolerate this incompetence,” vowed Moreno.
