When I hear "AI enabled drone" I get concerned. Giving AI the capacity to kill is a mistake.

@Jonathan Lamothe It is more like computer vision, something like cruise missiles use for quite some time.

The scarier thing is that such technology becomes more and more accessible and these things no longer are something expensive only national armies are expected to have. Soon we'll find ourselves in the world where almost anyone will be able to get/build a drone capable of delivering explosives somewhere with rather high chance of success.

@Александр Well, if it's a technology they use in cruise missiles... 🙃

My point is that when AI fucks up, it isn't accountable to anyone. It is however troubling that such technology has become so accessible though.

in reply to Jonathan Lamothe

@Jonathan Lamothe I think some can see this as advantage rather than disadvantage.

When a human fucks up they are held responsible.

When a machine fucks up... well, it is tragic but just a malfunction, machines break sometimes.

Jonathan Lamothe doesn't like this.

Actually, these days, "AI" simply means "software." The drones use some sort of, probably embedded, software. Remember, there is no artificial intelligence.

another concern is that every military will observe how the Ukraine AI drone function in the field and surely will go on to make their own version of such drone to keep up with the tech, improving where they see fit. Russia may learn quickest and field their own version first, but all other military will follow suit.

@TheFifthSeason Russia already used similar drones in this war. E.g. "Lancet" loitering munition drone has computer vision and can choose and hit predefined targets autonomously.
