Bluesky's Official Responses Regarding the System Outage

Thursday Bluesky posted that the outage was cause by a "sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack", and promised an update by the end of the day. The end of day update was simply that they would provide an update by this morning. Friday morning they posted an update that they would provide an update by the end of the day. Later they simply posted that they will provide an update by Monday morning.

Bluesky Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.

The attack is impacting our application, with users experiencing intermittent interruptions in service for their feeds, notifications, threads and search. We will provide an update no later than 10am PDT, April 17.
