EDIT: the administrator of the scholarship just sent out an update: it's for astronomy students at Southern African universities, not exclusively South African. I assume this means SADC countries - South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. If you're a little further north (Zambia? Angola?), you might be able to make a case for it. Apply and find out! Preference will be given to ASSA members, but that costs like R150/year which is cheaper than a copy of the sky guide (which you also get free with membership)
Calling all astronomy students at South African universities:
The Astronomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) is now accepting applications for it's scholarship program. Full details are at
assa.saao.ac.za/about/scholars…
But in summary, each scholarship pays R25,000 of your tuition fees at any South African university, and there are opportunities covering 2nd/3rd year undergraduates, and postgrad studies.
If you could benefit from this, PLEASE DO APPLY! Some of these scholarships went unclaimed last year because there simply weren't enough applications! And as a former recipient of this scholarship, I can assure you that you do *not* need to be the best and brightest. These scholarships are not designed to boost an elite few, they are simply meant to encourage the academic study of astronomy.
Please boost or pass on to any astronomy students you know!

They pay the university directly so it doesn't cover extra costs like books and accommodation, unfortunately.
