Trump is pushing #AI into classrooms as early as kindergarten.
"[W]e can ensure that every American has the opportunity to learn about AI from the earliest stages of their educational journey through postsecondary education, fostering a culture of innovation and critical thinking that will solidify our Nation’s leadership in the AI-driven future."
I am sure his tech-broverlords are thrilled about this.

The Trump Administration’s War on Children

The administration is quietly putting America’s children at risk by cutting funds and manpower for investigating child abuse, enforcing child support payments, providing child care and much more.

What really irks me about (public sector) pay not being linked to inflation is that not to do so is in essence a pay cut. Teachers, nurses and suchlike aren't asking for a real terms pay increase; they just want their pay to remain the same, year on year.
So often I read articles that are framed around sub-inflationary awards being an 'increase'. These crucial workers are so often asked to do more work for less reward.
Before the genocide, the education sector in Gaza was thriving. Despite the occupation and blockade, Gaza had one of the highest literacy rates in the world, reaching 97 percent. The enrolment rate in secondary education was 90 percent, and the enrolment in higher education was 45 percent.
Textbooks were distributed for free, and families received support to buy bags, notebooks, pens, and school uniforms.

Texas is almost certainly getting school vouchers — Senate Bill 2 has passed in the state’s House and is likely to have a fairly smooth passage to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk. It’s the culmination of a 30-year battle that has until now been blocked by Democrats and rural Republicans.
@TexasObserver takes a look at how it happened. Zeph Capo, the president of the Texas American Federation of Teachers, said in a statement: “Greg Abbott relied on a last ditch phone call from Donald Trump to bully Republican lawmakers to fall in line.”

“Harvard didn’t blink. The fight starts here,” writes @Daojoan for her Index newsletter. “[It] did not act quickly. But it acted clearly. That clarity must be contagious. Because unless every university in America is ready to say no to federal ideological coercion, this moment will not be a line in the sand. It will be a footnote in the obituary of academic freedom,” she writes. “The government has already decided it can control the curriculum by controlling the cash. What happens next is not up to them. It's up to everyone else.”

By slashing teams that gather critical data, the administration has left the federal government with no way of understanding if policies are working — and created a black hole of information whose consequences could ripple out for decades.
