Okay. These two posts by @andybaio and by @Cldfire are enough for me to raise concerns.
Question to you, Mastodon community and rest of Fediverse community:
Which Mastodon app is better: @phanpy by @cheeaun or @ivory l by @tapbots ?

I cancelled my Ivory subscription because of @phanpy. It's that good.Hachyderm.io

in reply to Expert Plus π • • •Admittedly, I have a bit of a bias against both of those, for different reasons.
For Ivory, it just seems that they're popular because of their Twitter following carrying over, not because they're actually better or have more features than other apps. Matter of fact, they've been far behind other apps in this way and I just don't get why people don't look at it objectively....
Phanpy on the other hand, is a PWA. I have a bad experience with PWAs simply not supporting certain simple things like for awhile, you couldn't "share" to PWA apps, either because they just didn't have it, or it wasn't supported at the time. This is outdated and this works now. But I find that PWA apps sometimes completely restart whenever I suspend them, making me lose my place, pretty frequently. That alone, makes me steer away from PWA apps because I hate losing where I left off because I had to pee....π¬

in reply to BeAware :veriweed: • • •@BeAware (but the question still remains: is Mona better then both Ivory and Phanpy?)
And if it's possible for you to ignore PWA issues and focus on Ivory's features and Phanpy's features and their UIs instead: is Mona still better then both Ivory and Phanpy?

I barely used Ivory because when I tried, they had JUST added support for custom emojis..you know, the thing that we've had for A LONG ASS TIME now on most other apps and Fedi proper? Yeah....they were still adding the most basic functionality when I used it, so my experience would NOT recommend Ivory in any case unless you want something super simple....
Phanpy, I've literally never tried. I could give the UI a go and look around a bit, but I unless the features are comparable (i doubt it) I won't be using it long enough to tell you ALL about it. Give me 24 hours and I'll let you know how I feel about the UI for phanpy.
Mona, on the other hand, has tons of neat features that I enjoy like (but not limited to)
Hashtag suggestions based on your personal use and their popularity AND it saves CamelCase when you use it. So if you use CamelCase a couple times with hashtags you use frequently, they will show up with CamelCase in the suggestions
Being able to have multiple accounts, but able to choose exactly which account I "interact" with on an

Being able to have multiple accounts, but able to choose exactly which account I "interact" with on any given post. (there's a setting for favorites, boosts are decided on a post-by-post basis)
Being able to view a post from the original instance, straight in the apps UI, with no real issues interacting with the replies from other servers that you can't see on your own instance. (Load from remote server)
Automated alt text. Admittedly I haven't actually seen this yet and how it compares to IceCubes integration. From what I understand, I can't actually see the description before I post, which makes it difficult to rely on, so I haven't yet.
Overall though, they're VERY interactive with the community and very open to feedback and suggestions and that's one of the most important things in my opinion. If an app is just endlessly adding "features" but those features aren't even what users actually want, then whats the point?

in reply to Expert Plus π • • •Well that's pretty neat. I'll try it out and let you know how it compares. I will specifically test out those features. Mona's integration of the former, is EXTREMELY seamless, it's like a quick "refresh" and everything looks the same, but the possibility of more replies to interact with.
If Phanpy is like this, then I'd probably just instantly pick Phanpy over Ivory in any case.π€£

in reply to BeAware :veriweed: • • •@BeAware please note that for these specific features you have to use https://dev.phanpy.social and have these features enabled in Phanpy Dev's settings. The https://phanpy.social site doesn't have these specific features.
Also, back in a day, you did test the automated ALT text in Phanpy btw

in reply to BeAware :veriweed: • • •I have spent a bit of time with it.
I couldn't seem to find the feature (even on the dev app) to view posts from the remote server.π€·ββοΈ
The UI is too "light mode" for me, but I admittedly I didn't try to look if there was a dark mode.
I feel like the usability of it is good. I DO like how they sorta bypassed the "app resetting" problem I mentioned by adding a "catch up" feature. That's really neat. Though I still found myself wishing it could be fixed in total, but idk if that'll ever happen because of the way iOS suspends Safari.π€·ββοΈ
Overall it's a good/decent app if you're good with PWA.π

in reply to BeAware :veriweed: • • •@BeAware regarding viewing profiles and posts from remote servers, both stable and dev have that.
To see a post from remote server:
1. Open a post you want to see from remote server in a popup.
2. Click 3 dots at the top.
3. There you should see that option that lets you visit this post from remote server.
Also you can copy the original Mastodon link of the post and paste it in Phanpy's search bar and click enter and open the post. It will show the post from remote server by default.
BeAware :veriweed: reshared this.

in reply to Expert Plus π • • •@BeAware you can do the same for profiles.
Visit a Mastodon profile in Phanpy (it's full page, not the popup) and click the 3 dots at the top and there should be the same option. Click it and you'll see the profile from remote server.
Hope it helps you!
