120 years ago, women wore bustles to make their backsides look bigger. Now big backsides are back in fashion. Big hip to waste ratio. That's the big thing these days.

Maybe in 20 years we'll go back to the flapper look: no waste-line, narrow hips, flat chest.

I suppose, if being thin is, for some reason, more difficult, showing off your backside makes sense. If you've got it, flaunt it. (Why is being thin more difficult now? It certainly seems to be, at least here in the US.)
