“We spend so much time trying to make other people feel comfortable that oftentimes we don’t even know what makes us happy.”

~ Alok Vaid-Menon

The above statement was written in regard to the gender binary. As someone who is non-binary and also neurodivergent, I believe it describes both experiences.

In both ways, I have crushed myself (masked) in order to get acceptance and not feel lonely.

But I lost who I was in that process.

So grateful to have the safety and space to peel back and rediscover myself now in my 40s! 🥰🙏

@ambivalena @actuallyautistic yes! There is so much more room on the canvas and more colours to choose from when colouring outside the lines!

@ambivalena @actuallyautistic no problem! It’s amazing to feel how much freedom and joy exists on the other side of shame and control. It feels within reach! 🥰

That is also true and I am happy that you feel that it is within reach. That is hard work! @actuallyautistic

thank you! I am doing best with it when I am by myself. When I meet others is where I get caught up. Treating myself with compassion for the years of shame thrust on me. Steps on the journey 🥰
