Years ago I went to the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg. There are wonderful works of art there but the building itself was poorly maintained. Also the paintings were in crappy little rooms hung on the walls with just smeared glass panels over them. I was very disappointed.

I visited with a friend's parents there and the building they were in was so dilapidated and dark that I was concerned about walking up the stairs. Their apartment was beautiful though.
