Emergency evacuation of residents has begun in Kurgan region, Russian media report.

The level of the Tobol river has approached the critical mark and has already reached almost 9 meters - the water has risen by 3.5 meters over the day and continues to arrive rapidly.

Kurgan residents were advised to stock up enough water to last an entire family a month.

So Russian authorities intend to do nothing about the situation beyond giving "helpful" advice.
