Okay. Let’s try this again a year and a half later. Just because it’s one of the most frustrating social media moments in my life.

Can I say, “that looked kinda staged” this time without being told to wait for official investigation and watch my tone?

There seem to have been rather huge bets placed on polymarket on the no side of all of these "what will he say at the WHCA dinner" bets right before the event.

You're not gonna get flak from me, 'swhat I'm saying. polymarket.com/event/what-will…

“old man who has needed to be dragged into public view over the last week honors commitment to attend perhaps the most cognitively dissonant event possible where his greatest enemy (people who are supposed to tell the truth) can be implicated as would-be assassins” does lend itself well to “this was staged,” yeah. Claiming it sounded like a dropped tray is also weird as fuck for someone who should probably be extra concerned about gunfire due to A) the “previous incident” and B) what I will only summarize as “public sentiment.”

(I have not engaged with coverage of the event beyond that because our media apparatus is particularly bad at breaking news coverage and introspection so this is probably not going to get decent coverage until Ronan Farrow’s kid writes a book 20 years from now.)

my first thought when I read it: "wait, that sounds exactly what Russia suggested to Orbán to not loose the election last month"

You mean that the dinner that Trump has historically avoided (after having a national sense of humour failure at one many years ago) just happened to be interrupted / he could get rushed away from...

By an "assassination attempt" - which is a well-known tactic by certain foreign actors to increase support for failing politicians prior to a notable election - which happens in a location / way that can be used as supposed-justification for one of his gaudy vanity projects?

What was on the menu for the dinner? Because something definitely smells fishy.

@svelmoe @Cyberoutsider

His spokesmodel Ms. Leavitt actually said that "shots will be fired" at the event with a smirk. Just couldn't help herself. It's bullshit and if there was any doubt about that, Trump's post-event press conference eliminated any doubt.

in reply to Lesley Carhart

@svelmoe @Cyberoutsider We live in an age of "the deification of triviality," where proof is replaced by shouting, and truth becomes merely a point of view amidst the noise of the deluded 🙃

If it wasn’t, those secret service agents need to be disciplined. They weren’t paying attention and the guy blew right past them, and then they fired off a bunch of rounds that hit nothing but the decor.

"Staged" was my first and immediate reaction the moment I first saw a headline about it...
The explanation under that headline solidified my initial thoughts.

in reply to Lesley Carhart

at this point in the chronic lie-filled corrupted presidency, it was also my first thought. at this point, it is natural to assume everything is staged/fishy.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

i support it considering the other "two" assassination attempts on "Trump" were absolutely bullshit and not covered by freedom of the press.

@lisamelton Even the SS agent that was allegedly shot was only mentioned by Trump. Reporting indicates the suspect was taken to the hospital, but no mention of the agent in reporting I’ve seen so far.

Speaking of other missing people, where’s the airman that got allegedly got rescued in Iran?

in reply to Lesley Carhart

I mean, normally the guy would be dead 🤔.

Then again, maybe he was just white & they gave him the benefit of the doubt ...

in reply to Lesley Carhart

I thought the optics were bad last time, but this time looks even more bizarre.

<sarcasm> I'm sure it's just a _coincidence_ that folks have been thinking recently about how an assassination attempt is good for votes. For examples, see the attached screenshots. </sarcasm>

IMHO, people are going to believe whatever they want to about today's event, but one important difference this time is nobody will give Trump any sympathy or a measurable boost in the polls. Nor will it stop people asking questions about Trump's involvement in the Epstein Files.

the fact that they managed to get Kash Patel standing upright in front of the media on a Saturday night does suggest some considerable pre-planning.

My current response to all this is "Trump is guilty until proven innocent "
in reply to Lesley Carhart

TBH a few failed assassination attempts ago, I thought you were being paranoid. Each new failed attempt pushes me closer to convinced that "they" are attempting to orchestrate their own Reichstag Fire moment.

There's obviously a lot built around Trump specifically, but I refer to an ambiguous *they* because I wonder if he might become expendable if a bigger push is needed. i.e. martyrdom.

I realise this is a big swing from "you're crazy" to "what kind of tinfoil makes the best hat", but I'm not being presumptuous about anything yet. Just being more open to the liklihood of a conspiracy at play.

All the world, is indeed, at scale, a stage. I'm more worried about complete, utter collapse, and the innocent suffering most.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

most of us believe it was a 'coup de theatre'.
There certainly is a lot of tv/media people involved in this regime.

But I actually expected a Cercei

in reply to Lesley Carhart

I mean, yeah but it doesn't matter. We're not the target audience, the idiots who got him through the ballots are, and they *will* fall for it.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

It's time we rewatch 'Wag the Dog'

Think of how Paramount is merging with WB

in reply to Lesley Carhart

IMO it must be staged. I mean, from an outside perspective. If this was a true reaction of the US Secret service, I'd be less embarrassing and more believable to say it was staged than to pretend it was real.

For me, this was a full Frank Drebin Naked Gun style of incompetence displayed here, with politicians shielding themselves pregnant women! (Stephen Miller)

This will make people from outside the USA think way, way less of them. More than the Iran war is doing already.

no.
Because there are still a lot of closeted Nazis.

(It was so obviously staged. They instantly went to the target and didn't even pretend to secure the scene, much less check for a second shooter.)

in reply to Lesley Carhart

Yes! 💯 As part of the Stalinist/Putinist tactic, leave everyone unsure of what IS happening, and what actually happened and untrusting of the Media (who were invited to the event).

And why the hell is hte security cam video in black and white and so out of focus? Did they filter that for some reason? More uncertainty, more questions, everyone untrusting of all source of truth.

in reply to Lesley Carhart

Reading about it and it sounds staged
Listening to audio and seeing video and it sounds staged
Seeing the Instagram photos of the guy they caught does not make it sound less staged
in reply to Lesley Carhart

This looks so much like his version of, text me 30 minutes into my date so I can have an excuse to bail, it's uncanny if not staged.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

While it does look sus on the surface, I still want to wait until an official investigation is complete.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

if it helps, I'm normally one of the "gotta wait for more info before drawing conclusions" folks... but this assassination attempt is just so monumentally moronic that I'm convinced this was either a staged attempt, or the failed shooter was really high on *something*

the real mind-numbing part of me is: if this was staged, it was for justifying the fucking ballroom??? who's writing this script???????

Honestly I forgot about it after reading within five minutes. That's how much people care about it. I wish political violence didn't happen, but if this time it did succeed then I personally wouldn't be too bothered.
in reply to Lesley Carhart

No. You're fucking retarded.

People like you are what is wrong with the world.

in reply to Lesley Carhart

Who’s gonna trust the “Official Investigation”, when all these people ever do is lie?
in reply to Lesley Carhart

If this was an RPG scenario, I’d list the possibilities as:
1. Genuinely slipped through cracks
2. (1) & installing loyalists = bigger cracks
3. (2) & reassigning feds to immigration = cracks are gaping holes
4. Feds knew the guy’s plans, tracked him and planned to arrest on-site as a political stunt — willingly risking lives
5. (4) & the feds helped him along to make sure he got there
6. Wholly staged

4+ is conspiracy land, but not sure I’d be surprised tbh
