One point I'm surprised isn't made more often: Trump inherited a functioning country when he took office in 2017.

His claimed successes are the result of Obama's 8 years in the presidency.

When Biden and Harris took office after Trump, they inherited a country and a government that was fractured in multiple ways.

So when Dana Bash asks about "people doing better under Trump" she's really asking about people benefitting from Obama era policies.

That logic is FAR too nuanced for MSM. Just tell me who to hate.

that interview style of asking those artificial press intelligence conventional wisdom questions with a premise such as "people fared better under trump" is a waste of valuable, productive time resulting in a diluted product. It is a myth, and I wouldn't mind seeing her and Walz directly call it out as such. Not that they need my advice.

it’s a pattern on repeat. The economy was decent and the Budget was balanced in 2001 when Bush took over and almost complete meltdown in 2009 when Bush handed it off to Obama. Same in 2016 and then 2020. Now we’re seeing it again in 2024.

This is a consistent pattern from Dems to Reps. Very few Reps have left the country in good shape economically. Yet, somehow they manage to convince half the electorate that they have.

This is why I get irritated with “the press”. They just seem to echo the statements from other side without doing any homework….

I don’t know why she doesn’t make this point. She should also be saying that Trump killed the border bill because it was “too good” and was “going to be too effective at restricting border crossings.” This is how you make him start having to respond to stuff instead of the other way around.

@MisterMoo

She made that point re the border bill in the interview last night - it was good to hear that.

In a way, yes, but I’d rather she punch it up to “too good” and “too effective.” Then you don’t need the details and the long answer. This kind of thing will help a lot in the debate if she brings it. The answers are too long for that situation right now.

Supporting evidence:
I’m in NC, which is presently a toss-up. Orange Man’s team has been sending me flyers.

Here’s one that attempts to take “observations about things happening in the country” and turn it into “results of each candidate’s policy”.

Like, brah? Have you heard that the Federal Reserve is independent from the Executive Branch!?

@ethanjstark

Trump's Fed *wasn't* independent. He forced the Fed to keep interest rates low, at a time when that was hugely inadvisable. This, and his egregious mismanagement of COVID, caused the 2020 crash.

Trump, ever the liar, is blaming Harris for the consequences of his own actions.

And people believe him. God save us from our own gullibility.

so-called journalists acting like oh you finally got these positive policies through the Republican obstructors today, so how come we aren't all living in the lap of luxury? As if these changes take no time at all

ok, need to make a second comment. former NFL coach Bill Parcells was the best in the business at calling out stupid press questions, and yes there are stupid questions and Ms. Bash has asked a lifetime's worth. Whether it's sports, entertainment or electoral politics, this culture in the press persists. Barbara Walters asking a teenage Brooke Shields about her measurements or Johnny Carson telling Linda Ronstadt that she has nice legs.
